We will also discuss how to incorporate negative space in your design to create a finished quilt top.

Stars of the Valley Quilt Show

The Illinois Valley Quilters' Guild presents the "Stars of the Valley Quilt Show"!

Looking for a quilty fix this summer?  Why not head over to Utica, IL for the Illinois Valley Quilt Guild's quilt show! We moved since our last show 2 years ago.  This facility is even bigger with more quilts to show and 13 vendors from all over the midwest.

Location: Celebrations 150 in Utica, IL (http://celebrationsgoodtimes.com/ )

Dates/Times: Saturday, July 21, 2018 9 AM-5 PM and Sunday, July 22, 2018 11 AM to 4 PM

We'll still have our New and Used Boutique (sort of a quilter's yard sale), the Small Quilt Sale, used books and magazines, raffle quilt, demos, raffle baskets, and of course the 13 vendors.  There will also be a quilt there that was made by ladies in Uganda.  Into modern and art quilts?  We'll feature the PAQA quilts that were on display at the IQF Show in Chicago.

If you joined us 2 years ago at our last show, it's only 6 or 7 miles west of there on the same road, Route 6.  Utica is an easy drive using Route 80 or Route 6.  There is also much to do in the area, including a golf course nearby.  Utica has 2 wineries, antique shops, great places to eat and much more.   Starved Rock State Park is nearby!  Ottawa and LaSalle are nearby and also offer much shopping and things to do.  Why not plan to make a day of it?

We hope you can join us!

The quilt will be black and white with a teal border. (Their colors are teal and purple)  If you want to contribute, Sue Marx is looking for fat quarters of black/white fabric.  True black and white please.  Put your name on your fabric in case it is not used and she will return it to you.  If someone has white fabric for the sashing, that would be a savings for our treasury.  We need a 2 2/3 yd. piece ofplain white fabric.

Workshop: Hand Piecing, Castle Wall

  • Ottawa Historical and Scouting Heritage Museum (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Description: Mickey Depre will present a workshop called "Hand Piecing, Castle Wall."

Here is a picture of what we'll be working on:  http://mdquilts.com/class-detail.php?ID=1.  Scroll down to "Castle Wall" and you will also find the supply list there as well.  Disregard the $25 kit fee, that is already paid for in your class fee.

Our guild provides use of irons, ironing boards, extension cords and large cutting mats, so there's no need to haul those.  And of course you won't need to lug your machine with you since this is hand piecing!

Join us for a class and learn a new skill.  Hand piecing is a great take a long project.  You'd be surprised how much you can accomplish with just a few minutes here and there.

Cost:  $40 for members and $50 for non-members

The cost includes the acrylic template kit, needle, a spool of Aurufil thread and use of Mickey's marking tools. It ALSO includes lunch and bottled water.  It's a really good deal!

Supply List: http://mdquilts.com/userfiles/file/Castle%20Wall%20-%20The%20Block%20Supply%20List%20%20v2017.pdf
